Summer Meal Program - Summertime brings a break from school... but the need for good nutrition doesn't take a break!

Learning does not end when school lets out. Neither does the need for good nutrition.

 

All kids under the age of 18 are eligible for FREE meals, and adults may pick up meals for their children Monday-Friday, now - August 7th.
 
We will be offering grab and go meals from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the following sites:
-Klondyke Apartments
-Herb Watts Park
-Hillcrest Apartments
 
Meals will be available from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Pisgah View Apartments as well as from 1:15 - 1:45 PM at Crowell Apartments.
 
We will also be offering drive-thru meal pick up at Isaac Dickson Elementary School from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.
 
Meals will be served Monday-Friday, and on Friday we’ll be offering meals for Saturday and Sunday as well.
 
We hope you’ll join us for some delicious free meals this summer!

Todos los niños menores de 18 años son elegibles para recibir comidas gratis, y los adultos pueden recoger comidas para sus hijos de lunes a viernes, hasta el 7 de agosto.

Good nutrition is essential for learning in school. Continuing healthy eating habits is also important during the long hot summer months. Eating nutritious foods helps ensure students retain their hard learned knowledge… and to help them to keep right on learning throughout the summer. For many of these children, summer vacation can bring the temptation of eating empty calorie snacks and foods that are high in sugar, fats and sodium. And for many others, summer exposes students to an increased risk of hunger and developmental decline. Make seasonal fruits and vegetables a high priority for your snacks, meals and anytime.

Summertime is a time to play hard...but it is also a time to remember to eat right. Make sure good nutrition remains a priority all summer long, and students will return to school in the Fall healthy, sharp and ready to learn.
